Summary on Grant Application Form
Increasing global competition, rapid changes in technology and necessity to respond quickly to a price and quality conscious customer have changed the dynamics of business. Today's UK manufacturing small and medium enterprises need to be responsive to the frequent changes in product mix and demand while minimising costs. Research shoes that virtual reality in a collaborative environment will allow organisations to significantly improve the core processes around the functions associated with the complete project life cycle that are the basis of their existence. This implies that UK small and medium enterprises can apply this technology successfully and gain the benefit in ways their laggard competitors cannot. The major limitations of the current methodologies are that they have been applied to large organisations and are extremely expensive. This project aims to develop a structured cost effective methodology (with the requested equipment) that will allow small and medium enterprises to adapt to the current volatile market needs in an cost-effective manner, using the existing infrastructure at the Warwick Manufacturing Group.
