Summary on Grant Application Form |
* This bid is for new equipment to establish at Brunel University a Prototyping Futures Research Institute.* The plan is to bring together elements of three established research themes, exploiting new synergies made possible thorough multidisciplinary working, enabling the groups involved to develop and disseminate innovative and generic uses for rapid prototyping.* The equipment will make a very significant contribution to the physical research infrastructure in the Department of Design and will create many opportunities for collaborative research, with industry and university research groups. The first research theme will study the new methods of working resulting from the interaction between the industrial design process and availability of rapid prototyping equipment. The second there, taking a more psychological slant, will examine the perceptual problems associated with CAD models and early prototypes. The third more speculative theme will explore the use of rapid prototyping to construct complex structures with embedded sensors, circuits and actuators.
