New methods for the asymmetric oxidation of hydrocarbons are proposed with the emphasis being on the oxidation of unactivated C-H bonds in alkanes. Methods based on the use of chiral dirhodium(II) catalysts and on oxygen transfer reactions from chiral urea-peroxide complexes and chiral sulfoxides will be investigated.
