Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of this project is to bring a relatively inexpensive but virtually unforgeable labelling or marking system to the European manufacturing community. The ideal system would be a unique and unforgeable thread or layer which could be invisibly woven into or printed into the fabric during garment manufacture, which in conjunction with appropriate sensing equipment could be unambiguously identified. In the experimental programme fundamental research will be carried out to investigate the incorporation of conductive polymers and electroluminescent compounds onto various fabrics. Printing of luminescent or photochromic materials onto fabrics will be investigated, along with issues concerning light fastness and data integrity.
