Summary on Grant Application Form |
We propose to use highly sensitive magnetrometry measurements to determine the magnetic moment values in the following MBE grown structures: (i) 3d transition metal single films as a function of thickness and interface material; (ii) transition metal alloy epitaxial films and bilayer systems as a function of thickness and material composition; (iii) ultrathin films and alloys as a function of lattice strain. The investigation will lead to an improved understanding of interface effects (strain, interface-induced polarisation, reduced coordination) on the magnetic moment and is relevant to the development of high magnetisation materials for magnetic information storage applications.
