Summary on Grant Application Form
Recently a national web-site which covers the NSH breast screening programme (BSP) was launched. This site contains basic information about the BSP and patient care. However, areas of research and development such as digital imaging, multi-modality and computer vision that can be used to enhance the performance o this programme are currently not included, nor is information about the research process that leads to such advances. The availability of this information would be of benefit to patients, their family, radiologist and researchers. Availability could be in the form of additional web-pages or a multi-media CD-ROM. This will contain information about the advantages that novel digital imaging, multi-modality and computer vision can offer to support and improve the national BSP, resulting in a better healthcare system. Researchers will be contacted to provide information about mammographic related projects which form the basis of the information system. The basic facilities will be enhanced by incorporating an (e)mail based question facility for the general public with questions about the various mammographic research aspects. Promotion of the web-site will occur at several stages, but to its main audience this will be via the NHS BSP and GPs. The success of the used approach will mainly be evaluated through the use of (e)mail questionnaires which will be fully analysed.
