Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project aims to raise the awareness of primary school children to the impact of science on everyday lifeResource materials on lighting will be developed for use by teachers in primary schools, a particularly under-resourced area. Each pack will contain material that can be used at all levels within the primary school and that can be used across the curriculum, eg in History and English - as well as in science lessons. It will provide teachers with easy to understand concepts, fun and exciting ways of teaching science, project work and kit to allow valuable practical work to take place. The project will allow primary school children to investigate topics such as : Why is light important? The history of lightingStreet lighting in Glasgow Lights in our environment - from traffic lights to neon signsThe project will be collaborative. At all stages we will draw on the expertise of the University's Physics Department and the Education Faculty. Through SATRO West Scotland @ Strathclyde we will also be able to obtain valuable input from the SATRO (Science and Technology Regional Organisation) Network, which exists to promote a better understanding of Science and Technology
