Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research will focus on three areas: long-scale ice accumulation on the walls of a channel or pipe; upstream influence and separation in the liquid phase; and icing instability. The VF will first derive the scaling laws and the governing equations for the long-scale icing, and will tackle the problem numerically with the analytical back-up provided by the PI and CI. Next analysis and computations will be extended to separated flows. In the third stage of the project the VF will perform analysis of icing instability. As much progress as possible will be made in the time available.
