Summary on Grant Application Form |
The aim of the work is to investigate the IT based integration of multi-disciplinary perspectives in concurrent conceptual design by remotely situated participants working in the AEC industry. To give the work a practical focus it is intended to concentrate on the design of commercial buildings. The work involves the creation of prototype software which will be used to evaluate the various novel ideas which are contained in the proposal. In particular the work will investigate the hypothesis that a suggested, new form of versioning (called options) is more appropriate for conceptual design than current versioning techniques. A further feature is the development of user specific interfaces in collaboration with practising designers and other participants. Also means of handling constraints, judging the value of options, creating a product model using graphical techniques and negotiation and sketching tools will be included. For the latter it is intended to investigate the use of a novel whiteboard product.
