Summary on Grant Application Form |
This application arises as a result of the need to develop and enhance the equipment base for research in the field of optical engineering, including optical metrology, fibre optic-based measurement and simulation and modelling of optical devices and systems. Research in this field has developed extensively in recent years at City University, supported by grants received directly from industry, the EU and EPSRC, both under several special initiatives and in responsive mode. The prime aim of the application is the enhancement of the research capability of the group at City through investment in new equipment, which will have a wide applicability across several projects in optical engineering. This will both enable existing proposals to be developed more rapidly and effectively, and to provide for new proposals better to be written as a result of the underlying research which can be done using the equipment provision requested. The work in optical engineering, firmly based in measurement, sensing and associated modelling, if in areas specifically targeted in the EPSRC Landscapes documents as priority areas and following the recommendations of Technology Foresight Panels, which strongly supported research in both measurement and sensing, and in the sue of enhanced optical techniques and methods.EngProg\
