Summary on Grant Application Form |
This ROPA will provide proof of concept for E-glass, and other low cost continuous reinforcements, in reinforced thermoplastic pipes (RTPs) to considerably extend their economic viability and applications.Innovative manufacturing principles and product configurations will be investigated using a small-scale helical winding facility. Combined stress response will be measured and modelled. RTP extends the pressure range of 'thermoplastic' pipe, while maintaining the useful attributes of corrosion resistance and handleability. Industry focus is currently on aramid reinforcement, which is expensive an hence limits applicability. A low cost alternative would greatly benefit UK manufacturing industry and infrastructure.
