Summary on Grant Application Form
The objective of the VIVID project is to create a system that will allow for the realistic design, testing and evaluating of both the form and function of multiple in-vehicle information displays. This will be applicable to systems for both commercial and private vehicles. The aim is to increase the competitiveness of the UK automotive manufacturing sector by reducing the time to market for new products and giving manufacturers a mechanism to ensure the proposed product actually meets the end user requirements. This is especially important for integrated systems which will be necessary to enable the increasing number of individual systems within a vehicle to work well together. The use of a virtual prototyping system will allow realistic evaluation to be undertaken at an early stage in the design process, avoiding many pitfalls and potential difficulties.HUSAT will contribute human factors knowledge to the development of the environment and rule-based modules, utilising the output of recent research into HMI (human-machine interface) integration for multiple driver systems. The components of this approach were: prioritisation of messages, display integration and trade-offs for control and display designs. Husat will extend this knowledge through empirical and desk-based research as an input to VIVID.EngProg\
