The research problems which the Visiting Fellow will work on arise from a class of physics problems; namely, the response of a Fermi system under the influence of a localised time dependent perturbation. This research will involve the asymptotic computation of Fredholm determinants of translation operators with discontinuous symbol. Such discontinuities are a generic feature of any Fermi systems with finite density of particles.
