|
The proposal seeks to investigate the extent to which established and innovative business practices within the aerospace sector can be successfully transferred to construction. The research is made especially timely by the emerging importance attached to Prime Contracting. This provides a new approach to construction procurement based on the integration of the supply chain, thereby reflecting long-standing practice within the aerospace sector. The research will further support cultural change ion the construction sector by encouraging participative working practices based on the established culture of continuous improvement within aerospace. The adopted methodology is essentially 'problem-driven' in response to the identification of 'knowledge-gaps' within the context of Prime Contracting as applied to construction. The methodology is further characterised by close collaboration between researchers and practitioners within the context of real problems. The guiding conceptual framework is informed by soft systems methodology (SSM), which has an established track record in facilitating learning and shared understanding amongst diverse participants.
