Summary on Grant Application Form |
In this pilot project we propose to study the physical and chemical effects that limit the production of intense ozone sources. We will combine both experimental measurement with theoretical modelling to design new gas discharge systems in which ozone production may be maximised. This work will be performed in collaboration with Professor J Skalny (Bratislava, Slovakia) an expert in corona discharges and Dr S Hadj-Ziane (Tiaret, Algeria) an expert in modelling the ozone producing plasma and forms part of a wider European collaboration on ozone generation involving five countries and two industrial partners. The proposed research programme comprises of:i) An experimental study of the ozone yield from a laboratory corona discharge (derived from a commercial instrument) operating under different discharge parameters and admixtures of gases.ii) The development of a simple numerical simulation for the calculation of ozone production in a corona plasma for direct comparison with the experiments.
