Summary on Grant Application Form |
The research proposal aims to develop new desymmetrisation methods for symmetric substrates, which could be synthesised by two-directional synthesis. The proposed methods exploit the particular configurational and conformational properties of pseudo C2-symmetric (3.3.0) ring systems, accessible through a conceptually interesting bifurcating cyclisation strategy. We will focus on the synthesis of bis-tetrahydrofuran and pyrrolizidine containing natural products such as (+)-Asteltoxin, (-)-Hastanecine and Rosmarinecine. Initial experiments for the synthesis of highly functionalised tetrahydrofuran rings are included as well.
