Summary on Grant Application Form |
Previous research in the applicants group has demonstrated that indium (III) complexes function as efficient Lewis acid catalysts for a range of applications including Friedel-Crafts acylation and Diels Alder reactions using imines as subsrates. The proposed research involves the development of new, enantiopure catalysts based on indium and the application of these catalysts to addition reactions of prochiral imines-a demanding area of asymmetric catalysis. The main focus of the proposal is to develop new methodology and the reactions discussed (heteroaromatic additions, Friedel-Crafts of silyl-enol ethers) are not trivial problems. The advantageous properties of indium are anticipated to lead a successful solution. The methodology will be exploited in the asymmetric synthesis of useful target compounds.
