Summary on Grant Application Form |
The essential core of this proposal is to convene a workshop for academics and practitioners to discuss the best way forward for river engineering research in the UK. EPSRC have funded the Flood Channel Facility at HR Wallingford since 1986, producing world-class data sets and publications, but nevertheless lacking the degree of dissemination required to get the results in the right form to the people who might benefit the most, the end users. At the same time the workshop will provide a platform for end-users to describe typical problems in detail. The longer term idea of the workshop is to establish a regular forum where this process can continue at least twice yearly for some years until it becomes properly established. Discussions will cover practical issues of river flooding, flood defence, sediment problems and river restoration issues.
