Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed package will provide a completely new, full-time, 1 year MSc course. A modular format will provide the options to study for a part-time MSc over 2-5 years, for a PgD, or for CPD. Parts of the course will be designed for open learning via the internet. MSc students will be assessed on the lecture course (weighted 40%), a group project (20%) and an individual project (40%). Core modules will include aspects of technology management and transferable skills. An element of choice will then enable students to extend their knowledge in either microsystems or nanotechnology. The aim is to provide suitably qualified graduates with the skills necessary to pursue challenging technical careers in sectors of the economy in which the manufacture of multifunctional devices with dimensions below a few micrometres is fundamental to wealth creation. The business plan aims to ensure that the course is fully self-supporting by the end of the period of EPSRC support.
