|
The Computing Department at Lancaster University currently runs an advanced MSc in Distributed Interactive Systems (see Existing Activities). We now plan to build on the success of this MSc, and to carry out a significant expansion programme, with the following key objectives: a) to introduce a new specialisation in mobile computing, reflecting the increasing economic importance of this area, b) to introduce a part-time mode of study, targeted towards industry, incorporating an annual summer school, c) to reach out to industry, particularly in the North West of England, to provide flexible patterns of training in the key areas covered by the MSc. We also have the support of the IEE regarding CPD status for the mobile specialisation (see letter of support). These developments will require a significant refinement of the course structure, to provide the required flexibility for part-time delivery (and indeed for other modes of delivery in the future). As part of this, we also intend to migrate towards paperless delivery of the course. We believe that EPSRC support is critical for our plans, and that the resultant MSc will fill an important void in current Masters provision in the UK.
