Summary on Grant Application Form |
The use of satellite navigation systems such as the US Global Positioning Systems (GPS) is already beginning to affect the lives of everyone. Now the European 'Galileo' project is significantly increasing the importance of this technology. The proposed Masters Training Package (MTP) seeks to build on the extensive MSc level experience and international research activities of the Institute of Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy (IESSG) to provide an MTP / MSc in Satellite Positioning Technology. The focus will be directed towards part-time attendance and CPD / short course provision to accommodate the demands of industry. The course will be delivered through the use of extensive one week teaching blocks, a methodology already successfully proven by the IESSG. Funding is primarily for student stipends and the development of innovations in delivery. These will allow students access to a web-based resource to support their private study and computers based simulators to develop experience and understanding.
