Summary on Grant Application Form |
It is proposed that a pilot scale investigation of the influence of operating parameters on the balance of organic to inorganic chlorinated disinfection by products be carried out, supplemented by mathematical modelling of the kinetics of their formation. The investigation will be based specifically on:1. trihalmethanes (THMs) and chloramines, and 2. The standard pool water chemical treatment techniques of the chlorination and clarification.2. Practical work will be carried out both on ex-situ samples of pool water analogues and on a pilot scale rig representing a full-scale swimming pool. Data from these studies will be used to validate the mathematical models to be developed, which will entail further development on existing mathematical model developed to represent chloramine formation in the substantially different case of potable water treatment. This model will be adapted to include modelling of THMsd and its adaptation to a closed loop system
