Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is to set up and develop over three years a self-sustaining research network in the built environment (BERN) which will provide a showcase for university research to industry, government, the wider built environment research community and funding bodies. BERN will provide a focus for strategic planning and development of a research agenda relevant to the needs of the UK built environment and will be an over-arching network bringing together the range of disciplines incorporated therein. Members will comprise representatives from universities, industry, industrial interest groups, government bodies, professional institutions and SMEs.The network will organise workshops and research exchanges, as well as specialised events focused on industrial liaison, the involvement of SMEs in research, proposal writing, research methods, peer review and the sharing of best practice between members. An integral part of the proposal is to encourage new staff in their research, in high quality collaboration and in securing appropriate funding, thereby developing the research community. The skills of the members will be used in delivering these activities and it is this support along with workshop attendance fees that will sustain the network beyond the three year EPSRC support.EngProg\
