Summary on Grant Application Form |
This course, the first of its kind world-wide, provides for graduate engineers a detailed education and training in industrial design professional practice. Successful completion of the course leads to a double qualification an MA (RCA) and the Diploma of Imperial College (DIC). Delivered jointly by the Royal College of Art and Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, it is particularly aimed at those students with a high level of competence and commitment of engineering/technology who wish to work creatively in the field of product design. This proposal seeks to develop further and enhance the course, and to ensure current and future needs of industry are met by:1. substantially revising and enhancing the existing modules of the course;2. underpinning the introduction of anew intensive module on digitally based design;3. furthering the industrial involvement in the delivery of the course;4. supporting the continuance of substantial make and test activities within the modules;5. providing student funding, initially at a level equivalent to the present provision. Although we would expect the requirements to decrease over the period of the package, some provision for continued funding for a reduced number of studentships will be needed in the future.
