Summary on Grant Application Form |
The strategy of the recently established UK Government and oil and gas industry alliance is to ensure that the UK continental shelf is maintained as a strong oil and gas production base; that the UK's share of the world's oil and gas supplies market for goods and services increases by at least 50% over the next five years and that the skills base which is vital for the North Sea's future and the increase of export activities, is maintained and developed. In the development of oil and gas fields and the transportation of produced oil and gas the design, operation and maintenance of pipelines plays a vital role. As the UK is one of the leading nations in pipeline engineering it is important to keep this position not only for the future of the UK continental shelf but also to maintain and improve the UK's competitive position in the growing global pipeline engineering business. The establishment of the proposed course will therefore assist in the realisation of the national objectives by providing trainees with a well founded knowledge and understanding of pipeline engineering so that they are competent to practise as pipeline engineers.
