Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose a systematic approach covering both experimental and theoretical aspects of wettability and its effect o n petrophysical properties of reservoir rocks. The experimental part includes visual observations of wettability and fluid distribution at pore scale and quantitative measurements of petrophysical properties at core scale. The measurements of electrical properties and capillary characteristics of reservoir rock samples will be carried out under simulated reservoir conditions. Environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) will be used to investigate the interaction and distribution of pore fluids and mineral surfaces. This will be further verified using two-dimensional visual models of the disaggregated sandstone samples to gain an in-depth understanding of rock and fluid interactions under a range of dynamic flow conditions. The experimental results will be integrated into our 3D pore-space network model (NETSIM), which uses pore-scale wettability variations. Th model will be further developed and used to facilitate the upscaling from pore to core scale and to allow preductions of wettability effects on petrophysical properties of hydrocarbon reservoirs.
