Summary on Grant Application Form |
To detect, characterise and assess small crack initiation and growth in aluminium and titanium alloys under fatigue loading. Emphasis will be placed on the sue of innovative advanced techniques for characterising the early stages of crack growth. These techniques will include acoustic emission, pulsed direct current and alternating current potential difference (in combination with very fine multiple probes ultrasonically welded to testpieces), and in-situ observations under load within a field-emission gun scanning electron microscope. Particular attention will be focused on crack initiation and growth at elevated temperatures.EngProg\
