Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project will implement a language and architecture for robot control in which logic, specifically the Event Calculus, is the medium of representation, and theorem proving is the means of computation. This will be deployed on robots with rich sensors in a complex, dynamic environment. This environment will include other robots. The latter half of the project will investigate issues in multi-robot communication and co-operation using logic-based technology developed in the first half.Work on this two year, 48 man-month project is divided into five phases. In phase one we will construct and evaluate by formal and practical means an Event Calculus Language and Architecture which will overcome known performance problems. In phase two we will construct logical models of complex environments for robots with rich sensing capabilities. In phase three we will address issues in knowledge producing actions and apply these to abductive map building tasks. In phase four we will explore an abductive approach to the treatment of Agent Communication Language performatives in a robotics context. Finally we will provide demonstrations of co-operative working with multiple robots.Cognitive robotics II builds on the results of its immediate precursor, EPSRC project GR/L20023, Cognitive robotics .
