Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal is to provide funding to establish a network of researchers from academe and industry. Plus equipment suppliers, who are involved with electron back-scatter diffration (EBSD) as an experimental tool. Over the past decade or so EBSD technology has permitted massive strides to be made in microtexture/microstructure research and, more recently, strain measurement and phase identification. The network is a timely initiative since, although this innovative technique was developed in the UK, there is now a need to focus on its scientific application in order to establish UK competitiveness, in alignment with EPSRC's mission. A network will facilitate this overall aim by bringing together appropriate parties to address how EBSD can be most advantageously exploited to help solve materials problems. - enhanced research proposal submission- progress towards best practice and standardisation recommendations for ESBD- Provision of support for workers new to the field. These key objectives will be achieved chiefly by planned workshops and conferences, a comprehensive website providing a compendium of up-to-date information and a work programme, including a 'round robin' exercise
