Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposal brings together a wide range of expertise in three universities, the power industry and the aerospace industry to critically evaluate and overcome deficiencies in the procedures used in the evaluation of the structural performance of components which suffer severe thermal and mechanical loading conditions. The programme consists of a three pronged attack. A critical comparison of existing procedures in the two industries will first be carried out at Oxford University with the assistance of the two industrial partners. New analysis methods which have been developed in recent year at Oxford and Leicester in co-operation with the two industries will be evaluated and developed for the same class of problems and material data. A three way comparison will then be made with existing data and a set of critical tests, carried out at Swansea University and designed to represent extreme modes of behaviour where current methods are known to be deficient. The project has been staged to allow each partner to make their contribution at the appropriate time. Keywords describing areas of proposal. Design, Information Technology, Materials, Manufacturing
