Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will enable leading researchers in psychology (Bruce) and image analysis (Hancock) of face processing to work closely with a local company which develops and markets software (such as CD-Fit) for police investigations of suspect facial appearance. In the project we will examine the effectiveness of developing methods to construct and view composite images in 3D, and will explore whether combining judgements from different witnesses could result in better composites. We will also examine whether there are ways of incorporating images from CCTV images into the process of generating a composite image for police investigations. Methods of accessing further data-bases of crime and suspect information via CD-Fit composites and/or CCTV images will also be explored. The results of our studies will feed into the development of enhanced and novel products for forensic investigations using the face.
