Summary on Grant Application Form |
The strategic goal of the proposed research is to develop techniques that can be used for a systematic application of kernel-based learning methods in a wide range of applications and data scenarios. The learning systems engineer required reliable methods of choosing kernels, selecting learning strategies and implementing solutions. The strategic position of this research theme makes it likely that the outcome s will benefit a large number of research practitioners in areas ranging from bioinformatics to general data mining. The project will develop novel kernels for particular application domains as well as general strategies for creating new kernels. The kernel selection criteria will be based on rigorous statistical results ensuring that they are robust and reliable. Algorithmic strategies will be developed for efficient implementation of the new kernels and optimisations. Benchmark testing of the techniques will be made.
