|
The proposed engineering research platform programme aims to promote high quality research as well as improving collaboration, dissemination and exploitation by developing better links through the research -based and industrial community of process industry. Collaboration on different research programmes will be carried out with both industrial and research-based organisations, engaged in design, manufacturing and operating processes including particularly combustor and incinerator plants. A Platform budget of about 80,000 per year for 4 years is envisaged. The platform grant will underpin the longer term generic research carried out at the Sheffield University Waste Incineration Centre and complement the conventional EPSRC and industrial funding projects that have specific shorter term objectives.Driving Forces and Mission of the Proposed Platform Programme are as follows: 1) Establishment of a world class stateof-the-art research centre to carry out cutting edge research in the area of waste, energy and pollution management, 2) Demand for a concerted national interdisciplinary research programme to integrate work on waste, energy and pollution control for sustainable cities, and involving monitoring/analysis/engineering/health, 3) The need for a training facility in waste, energy and pollution control management, 4) Sharing and pooling of resources, information and expertise on an international scale, 5) Demand for cost effective research
