Summary on Grant Application Form |
The availability of a well-behaved biomolecular hetero Diels-Alder reaction and a new series of closely related metalloporphyrin dimers will allow a unique combination of solution state and solid state physical organic studies of cavity solvation, substrate binding and host accelerated kinetics. Solution state binding and kinetics experiments will be classical, relying on NMR and UV/visible spectroscopy and GC analysis respectively. Crystallographic work will depend on CCD detection in house and synchrotron sources (Daresbuy) to allow analysis of tiny, highly solvated, fragile crystals. (No specific resources are requested for the crystalllographic work).
