Summary on Grant Application Form |
The broad aim of this project is to develop a model which will facilitate of designing for ease of systems evolution. The need to improve the quality of software-dependent systems has long been recognized, but is now taking on an increasing urgency, as so much of everyday life is now intrinsically bound to IT in its many guises. This proposal applies empirical software engineering research methods to existing an on-going systems development projects through the performance of case studies. We hope this will begin to provide answers to some of the questions raised when trying to design systems which are amenable to evolution, and that this research will prove helpful in establishing a foundation for software evolvability theory and in recommending ways to enhance current design practices.
