This is a computational and experimental study of extremely closely packed FSS arrays. The first of the 3 objectives has 3 principal components, involving the extension of our existing Floquet modal based software, and the development of transmission line equivalent circuit models. For this, numerous superdense FSS arrays will be fabricated using our existing artwork and etching process. With such close packing, it is important to establish the effects on the FSS performance of dimensional errors arising in the fabrication process. This will be done experimentally and by using computer models generated by the first objective. Once the design procedures are in place, the very wide reflection bands will be exploited in 2 ways. A suitable enclosure will be covered with a superdense FSS and the isolation of the interior from external signal sources will be determined experimentally. Finally, the availability of such wide reflection regions and the use of the Fabry Perot Interferometer technique will provide designers with much greater flexibility in enforcing transmission bands at frequency locations required by the end user.
