Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal seeks funds to purchase a Rheometrics ARES (Advanced Rheometric Expansion System)controlled-strain rheometer to provide research-class rheological characterisation of complex fluids and soft solid systems. The ARES is intended to replace two defunct 1960's-vintage Weissenberg Rheogoniometers and support a broad portfolio of current EPSRC-funded and industrially-sponsored research projects. Further, it is planned that the acquisition of the ARES will facilitate the implementation of several new rheologically-based projects involving collaborative research between the following Centres at UW Swansea: the UW Institute of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics at the Dept. of Computer Science; the Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating at the Dept of Mechanical Engineering; the Polymer and Composite Centre at the Dept. of Materials Engineering; and the Centre for Complex Fluids Processing at the Dept. of Chemical and Biological Process Engineering.
