Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal is concerned with an improvement to a central computer server used by all groups within the Joint Physics Department. The purpose is to enhance our various imaging projects and to ease the transfer between the various groups of methods of image processing and analysis that are of common utility. The olan is to replace a Sun Enterprise 450 server, which currently has 2 CPUs of 296 MHz, 1 Gbyte memory and Z5 Gbyte disc space with a new Enterprise 450 server with 4 CPUs of 400 MHz, 4 Gbyte memory and 180 Gbyte disc space. Relevant projects encompass all groups within the department: Radioisotopes, Radiotherapy, MR and Ultrasound. Radioisotopes projects include Whole-body and dynamic imaging with accurate attenuation and scatter correction and Patient specific dosimetry for biologically-targeted radionuclide therapy (BTRT) . Radiotherapy projects include Functional definition of target volume for planning conformal radiotherapy . Projects involving MR and Radiotherapy include The application of MRI gel dosimetry to evaluate and verify new conformal radiotherapy techniques . Projects involving Ultrasound include New imaging methods for the guidance of minimally invasive thermal ablation tumour therapies
