Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed programme is aimed at taking advantage of the existing high speed channel sounder and hyper-resolution method at Portsmouth to establish a firm foundation for future wireless communications research. The tasks to be carried out are (i) upgrade the existing high speed, 31.25MHZ bandwidth, sounder form 1.3 GHz, (ii) integrate a fast switched multi-antenna system within the modified sounder, (iii) develop a hyper-resolution TOA and AOA algorithm for future direction finding investigations, (iv) measure the channel transfer function, in selected but representative channels including indoor-to-outdoor, both in the presence and absence with the multiple antenna connected to the transmitter receiver, (v) evaluate the multiple channel responses using an existing hyper-resolution algorithm, (vi) characterise the channel using path loss, delay spread, coherence bandwidth, delay window and investigate the spatial correlation of the signal, (vii) develop more accurate channel models based on the TOA and the number of significant multi-path components and (viii) carry out a limited AOA measurements in a static channel by moving the antenna(s) in a predefined manner to emulate an antenna array.
