Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project will focus on the investigation of opportunities for the exploitation of IT in design ar construction teams that are not being taken up in practice. It will explore the contexts where the of use of IT forms a barrier to effective team-working. Through a cross-industrial comparative anal: it will identify the human factors associated with effective IT use.The study will provide insight how to design IT systems for construction which match the cognitive capacity of users with their soc and organisational settings.Case studies will be carried out with targeted personel from the collaborating organisations, where data will be collected on culture, stucture, and IT practices. An ethnographic approach will be ado: for interviews, information from which will be used to develop a postal questionnaire for wider distribution. The output of this study will identify areas in design and construction that are akin - and might be treated as manufacturing processes and those which rely to some extent on traditionamethods. Guidelines will be produced for the effective use of IT within teams in traditional and non-traditional design and construction activities.
