Summary on Grant Application Form |
In the fields of potable water treatment, there is a growing need in the UK and internationally for 'enhanced coagulation' and 'enhanced disinfection' in order to achieve higher final water qualities. This project aims to develop and evaluate a potentially more effective oxidant/coagulant, Ferrate(VI) salt, for water treatment. The study will evaluate different methods of preparing Ferrate(VI) salts and determine the properties of the resulting chemicals. The disinfection/coagulation performance of selected Ferrate(VI) salts will be evaluated firstly at laboratory scale and then at pilot-scale at one water treatment works with the collaboration with Yorkshire Water. On the basis of this, the method of preparing Ferrate(VI) salts will be optimised and it should be environmental friendly, and the final Ferrate(VI) products are to be stable and to give the best water treatment performance.
