Summary on Grant Application Form |
Techniques of field theory and statistical physics will be employed to elaborate and explore the ramifications and necessary extensions of a set of universal physical and biological principles for the quantitative understanding of the origin of simple scaling laws found to apply over many orders of magnitude in biological processes, such as metabolic rates. Applications and extensions of conceptual principles and mathematical techniques to other networks, webs and hierarchical structures will be considered.
