Summary on Grant Application Form
Dynamic light scattering equipment will be used to measure micelle size and behaviour for a range of block copolymers from controlled polymerisation, in particular atom transfer polymerisation. Static light scattering will allow us to measure absolute Mw and radius of gyration for complex architecture polymers from controlled radical polymerisation. Laser diffraction will be installed to measure primarily, particle size of emulsion polymers from atom transfer polymerisation. Many of out block copolymers are surface active and state-of-the-art contact angle will be utilised to investigate surface properties. Aggregation of non-covalently linked polymers will be studied by dynamic light scattering. Contact angle measurement will be used to investigate materials, which can change their surfaces, by the action of external stimuli. The facilities will be utilised in a wide range of polymer and materials projects funded by EPSRC, EU and industry. In particular the behaviour of amphiphilic blocks in aqueous solution will be investigated.
