Detailed research discussions over one week in Bristol on the relationship of random sets, fuzzy sets, interval probability theory and their use in engineering problems. These theories are crucial if an engineering theory of evidence about open world problems with sparse data and much judgement is to be developed into a useful and practical form. Two workshops will also be held, one in Bristol and one in Bath at which lectures will be presented by the two VFs, to the Faculties. The Bristol workshop will focus on the theory and the Bath workshop on the use of the theory in research on the seismic vulnerability of historic masonry buildings, defining damage levels and relating damage with computed vulnerability.
