In all chemical reactors based on gas-liquid reactions (oxidation, chlorination, hydrogenation, fluoridation etc.) heat and mass transfer occurs between the gas and liquid phases. The rate of transfer, and hence the production capacity of the reactor, depends on the surface area of the bubbles and on the concentration gradients in each phase coupled with the local rate of reaction. To analyse this complex situation we must first understand how the concentration field becomes established. The most important stage in this is the development of the field within and around the bubble, coupled with the accompanying increase in its surface area and the evolution of surface shapes, immediately after it has entered the vessel through the sparger.The research is entirely theoretical and numerical and has no immediate empirical or experimental comparison. The analysis will consider the saturation of an isolated inert bubble with vapour from a volatile hot liquid. The behaviour of the inert bubble will be modelled, including tracking the motion of the interface with heat and mass transfer and the evolution of shapes bubble surface. Am improved method to simulate such complex process will be investigated and developed.
