Summary on Grant Application Form |
This work will evaluate the likely performance to be obtained from a DSP processor which is constructed of coarse grain functional units such as multipliers, adders and shifters embedded within a reprogrammable device (similar to an SRAM based FPGA). The work will address both architectures for such a device and basic programming tools. Architecture exploration will use genetic algorithms to determine a near optimal design for a given benchmark set. The end point of the work is expected to be a case for the design to silicon of such a device.
