The Staffordshire group has been involved with the analysis of proton-rich osmium nuclei taken from JUROSPHERE experiments and the continuation of systematic studies to higher-Z-lower-N nuclei can only be achieved using the unique capabilities of a gamma-ray spectrometer used in conjunction with a tagging spectrometer. Studies of energy level systematics of isotonic and isotopic sequences in this mass region are important in establishing trends of changing deformation properties and the underlying single particle orbits near the Fermi surface. This provides a stringent test of our current mean field theories at these extremes of stability. Furthermore investigations of quasiparticle alignments and crossing frequencies show deformation dependence and can act as a sensitive and unique probe of the structure of low/medium spin states for nuclei very far from stability. The Staffordshire group has played a leading role in the study of pfg shell nuclei and the continuation of this work to more proton-rich systems requires the development of beta-delayed gamma tagging techniques. The complete study of isobaric mass multiplets is crucial to obtaining information on the isospin degree of freedom and pairing modes.
