Summary on Grant Application Form
We will prepare a series of new modified polysilsesquioxanes (latter are amorphous mesoporous networks based on [3/2 OsiXSi] n units where X is a built-in organic spacer) and assess performance as catalysts in comparison to related active modified mesoporous silicas. Our preliminary work indicates considerably faster uptake of organic substrate using porous polysilsesquioxane networks compared to related inorganic silicas. We will synthesise and characterise a range of novel molecular organosiliconphosphonates (EtO)3 SiXCH2PO(OR)2 (X = organic spacer) and from them derive a unique class of phosphonic acid modified silicas and polysilsesquioxanes. We will investigate formation and catalytic activity of anchored metal phosphonate complexes from the phosphonic acid modified materials; carry out an assessment of phosphonic acid modified silica and polysilsesquioxanes as reversible pH dependent supported binding agents for use in chromatography.
