The proposed work is an enhancement of the study being carried out in the University of Nottingham to study the interaction between precast hollow cored floors and steel beams. The main aim is to develop a standard push off test procedure and make recommendations for composite beams using precast hollow cored units (hcu) and hence determine the shear capacity of the headed stud shear connector. Once a standard push off test is developed, 46 full scale push off tests are proposed to investigate the effects of the various basic parameters of composite hollow core construction which determine the shear capacity of the headed stud shear connector. The basic parameters are size of the headed stud, end profile, thickness of the hcu, amount of transverse reinforcement and strength of insitu infill which are believed to be influential to the shear capacity. From these experimental results, design formulae/tables can be proposed for use in composite hcu construction.
