Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed project consists of a one year feasibility study to:1) Investigate the possibility of reducing the cost, time, uncertainty and inconvenience of providing domestic scale property extensions for disabled users by applying modular building technology to an expressed need for living floor level toilets and bathrooms.2) Provide information, possibly suitable for later developing into guides, arising from the research. This information is expected to be of value, not only in the context of (1), but to other construction types and other users. The project will involve reviewing literature, interviewing a sample of users and their representatives on a face-to-face basis, interviewing constraining stakeholders concerned with property values, development control and building regulations respectively, interviewing modular building supplier(s) and assessing supply side options, a quantitative and qualitative assessment of alternatives to the extension route, providing informal feedback to users, collaborators and other participating parties and producing a report.
